WORCESTER/CLIFFSIDE PARK, NJ - A. Louise (McCarthy) O'Connor, 79, formerly of Worcester, passed away peacefully on Friday, December 10th in Brooklyn, NY.

She was born August 1, 1942 in Clinton, MA., daughter of the late Charles and Alice (Skerrett) McCarthy. Her late husband, John J. O'Connor, a veteran reporter for the Worcester Telegram & Gazette, died in 1998. She leaves her son, Andrew O'Connor, his wife Joanne and a grandchild, Sonny, all of Brooklyn; three siblings, Rosemary Welch of Lancaster, Charles and Mark McCarthy, both of Worcester, and many nephews and nieces. She was predeceased by her brother, Stephen McCarthy and sister, Kathleen Tomaiolo.

Louise lived most of her life in Worcester before moving to the New York City area about 10 years ago to be closer to her son and his family. She graduated from St. Stephen's High School and Ward Business School.

Louise worked as a legal secretary in Washington, D.C. during the late 1960s. In addition, she worked at the Worcester Superior Court for several years, and as a secretary for Worcester Mayor Israel "Izzy" Katz, in the 1970s, as well as at R&R Plumbing in Worcester.

She was an avid reader and enjoyed going to the theatre. She traveled extensively visiting destinations from Kyoto, Japan to many European cities. Her favorite destination was the island of Nantucket where she and her family spent time every summer.

She was an active member of Christ the King Church in Worcester and later at Epiphany Church in Cliffside Park, NJ.

A Funeral Mass will be held Wednesday, December 15th at 10 a.m. at Christ the King Church, 1052 Pleasant St., Worcester. Burial will be in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton. Visiting Hours are Tuesday, December 14th from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Callahan Fay Caswell Funeral Home, 61 Myrtle St., Worcester. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Christ the King Church
