Agnes Samara

March 6, 1926 — May 19, 2018

WORCESTER-Agnes (Palulian) Samara, 92, of Worcester died peacefully on Saturday, May 19, 2018 at home surrounded by her loving family. She was born and raised in Worcester, daughter of Asadoor "Oscar" Palulian and Nevart (Kazanjian) Palulian, who was a survivor of the Armenian genocide. She graduated from Commerce High School. She was baptized and christened in Holy Trinity Armenian Apostolic Church and upon her marriage to Charles Samara on May 29, 1949 she became a member of St. George Orthodox Cathedral.

In her earlier years, Agnes worked for her brother-in-law Ralph at Paxton Pharmacy and for the Worcester Public School Lunch Program. Most recently, until the age of 83, Agnes worked in the Parent Information Center as a tester in the Bilingual Department of the Worcester Public School system.

Agnes was predeceased by her beloved husband Charles, and her cherished daughter Jill Marie DiGiovanni. She is survived by her daughter, Janis C. Arvanigian and her husband Gary of Worcester, her son, John P. Samara and his wife Patricia of Austin, TX. She was a loving and devoted "Nanny" to eight grandchildren; Mark Arvanigian and his wife Melissa, Christine Arvanigian and her husband William Manzo, Nicole Apelian and her husband Daniel, Joseph DiGiovanni and his wife Shannon, Paul DiGiovanni and his fiancé Katie Stevens, and Michael, James and Julia Samara. She also leaves seven great grandchildren; Mia, Elise, Charlie, Samara, Ani, Louis and Jack. She is also survived by her sister S. Barbara Hovanesian and her husband Ralph of Paxton, her son-in-law David DiGiovanni and several nephews and nieces. A sister Rose Greenhalgh, and brother John Palulian predeceased her.

Agnes enjoyed baking and cooking and spending time with her family. Her grandchildren and great grandchildren brought such joy to her.

A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00am on Tuesday, May 22 at Holy Trinity Armenian Apostolic Church, 635 Grove Street. A visiting hour will be held at church from 10:00am until the time of the service. Burial will follow at Hope Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Holy Trinity Armenian Apostolic Church.
