WEST BOYLSTON- Alfred P. "Al" Materas, Jr., 82, passed away peacefully at his home with his wife by his side on April 9, 2021.

He was born in Derby, Connecticut on December 20, 1938 the son of the late Alfred P. Materas, Sr., and Mary Doborowicz. He was raised in Connecticut and graduated from Valley Regional High School in Deep River before matriculating to Central Connecticut State University where he earned his bachelor's degree. Later, he enrolled at American International College where he received a master's degree.

Al began his career as a high school Math teacher at Amity Regional High School in Woodbridge, CT. He later entered the insurance field and was employed by Berkshire Life Insurance Company as an Officer. Fourteen years later he moved to Central Mass where he was employed at Textron Defense Systems in Wilmington, MA for many years and retired as Vice President of Human Resources. He came out of retirement to join the Robert E. Nolan Company, Inc.as a Senior Consultant for the rest of his working career.

He was an avid golfer and enjoyed gardening, reading, traveling and playing cards with friends. Above all however his family was most important to him and he cherished time spent with them, especially his grandchildren who were the light of his life.

He leaves behind his beloved wife of 58 years, Judith (Burk) Materas; their children, Alfred P. Materas III of West Boylston, James A. Materas and his wife, Lesa of West Boylston and Kevin J. Materas and his wife, Paula of Athol; his grandchildren, Maxwell Materas of West Boylston, Scott Materas of West Boylston and Alfred P. Materas IV, of Worcester. Al, being an only child, considered his sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, James and Donna Burk of Greenville, NC and Jacquelyn and the late George Yiznitsky of Enfield, CT his siblings. He also leaves many nieces, nephews, extended family members and dear friends.

Family and friends will gather to celebrate Al's life with visiting hours on Wednesday, April 14th from 5:00pm until 7:00pm at Fay Brothers Life Celebration Home, 1 West Boylston St., West Boylston. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00am on Thursday, April 15th at Our Lady of Good Counsel Church, 111 Worcester St., West Boylston. Burial will follow at Mount Vernon Cemetery.
