WEST BOYLSTON-Alfred Herman Carl, age 97, passed away on March 13, 2026 with his family at his side. A former resident of West Boylston, Massachusetts, he relocated to Drums, Pennsylvania five years ago.
Born on June 9th, 1928 in Clinton, Massachusetts, the eldest child and only son of Alfred Kurt Carl and Irma (Sontag) Carl. He attended Clinton schools and graduated from Bryant College with a degree in accounting.
He married Winifred Mary Sereicikas on June 28, 1950 at Saint Casmir’s Church in Worcester, Massachusetts. They shared 62 years of a wonderful marriage until Winnie’s passing on September 23, 2012.
In addition to his wife and parents, Alfred was predeceased by his sisters Nancy Johnson, Mariam Shaw and Irene Johnson.
He is survived by his sons, David Alfred Carl, M.D. and his wife Deborah Anne Gorski, M.D. of Mountain Top, Pennsylvania, Richard Thomas Carl, PhD and his wife Lou Ann Burgess of Falmouth, Massachusetts; grandchildren Lindsay Bower and her husband Jacob Bower of Mountain Top, Pennsylvania, Timothy Carl of Mountain Top, Pennsylvania, Jacob Burgess Carl and his fiancé Nicole Bourgant of Mashpee, Massachusetts, and Hannah Burgess Carl of Falmouth, Massachusetts. Great grandchildren Ava Carl Parkinson of Falmouth, Massachusetts, and Elwyn Bower of Mountain Top, Pennsylvania and two sisters, Betty Moffitt of Southbridge ,Massachusetts and Carolyn Gibbons of Clinton, Massachusetts, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Alfred was employed for many years at the former Hillcrest Dairy as controller/treasurer, then at C.K. Smith Oil (now Peterson Oil) in the same capacity. He operated a private income tax service until age 90.
A convert to Catholicism at the time of his marriage to Winnie, he embraced his faith, serving for over 30 years as a Eucharistic Minister at Our Lady of Good Counsel Parish along with his wife. Alfred also served for many years on the parish finance committee.
Following his retirement Alfred enjoyed traveling with his wife and family on many cruises, trips to Cape Cod, Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, and Aruba.
Friends and family may call at Fay Brothers Funeral Home, 1 West Boylston St, West Boylston, Massachusetts on Saturday March 21, 2026 from 9-10:30am with a Funeral Mass at Our Lady of Good Counsel Church at 11:00am. Interment will follow in Mount Vernon Cemetery.
The family would like to express their appreciation to the staff at Providence Place Memory Care, Hospice of the Sacred Heart, and especially Lucy Patte for the compassionate care at end of Alfred’s long life.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Hospice of the Sacred Heart, 30 Preate Drive, Moosic, Pennsylvania 18507 or Our Lady of Good Counsel Parish, West Boylston, Massachusetts.
