Alfred P. Materas

WEST BOYLSTON
Alfred P. Materas, Sr., 92, of West Boylston died Sunday, March 28, Knollwood Nursing Center.
His wife of 68 years, Mary D. (Doborowicz) Materas died in 2006. He leaves a son, Alfred P. Materas, Jr. and his wife Judith of West Boylston; two sisters, Amelia Hines of Seymour, CT and Anne Gruttadauria of Torrington, CT; three grandchildren, Alfred P. Materas III of Grafton, James A. Materas of West Boylston and Kevin J. Materas of Athol; three great-grandsons, Maxwell J. Materas and Scott A. Materas both of West Boylston and Alfred P. Materas IV of Grafton and several nieces and nephews. Four sisters, Doris Dudik, Emma Doneski, Mary Chrystal and Ruth Gillispie predeceased him. He was born in Charlton, son of William and Pia (Gentile) Materas and graduated from Charlton High School. He lived many years in Monterey, moving to West Boylston 27 years ago.
Alfred was the Manager of the Hartford branch of the Pinkerton Security Company for many years, retiring 29 years ago. He was a member of the Council on Aging, a former chairman of the Elder Services Program and was a longtime member of Our Lady of Good Counsel Church and past president of its Hall of Famers all in West Boylston. He was an avid bowler and former member of the Knights of Columbus.
The funeral will be held Wednesday, March. 31, from FAY BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, 1 W. Boylston St. with a Mass at 12:30 p.m. in Our Lady of Good Counsel Church, 111 Worcester St. Burial will be in Mt. Vernon Cemetery. Visiting hours are Wednesday, March 31, from 10:30 to Noon in the funeral home.. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Diabetes Assoc., P.O.
