Alice Gertrude (Murray) McManus, 77, of 11 Western Ave. died Wednesday, Feb. 2, in her home after a long battle with cancer. She was born in Worcester, daughter of William A. and Anna (Lee) Murray.

She leaves her husband of 55 years, Robert A. McManus; a daughter, Eileen M. Sambito of West Boylston; two sons, Michael J. McManus of Shrewsbury and John J. McManus of West Boylston; two brothers, Paul Murray of Worcester and Donald Murray of North Brookfield; eight grandchildren; a great-granddaughter and several nieces and nephews.

Alice graduated from Commerce High School in 1945. She worked for State Mutual Life Insurance Company and D.H. Adams Plumbing & Heating Co., Inc. for many years. She was a lector, a long standing member of the Women's Club and taught C.C.D. classes at Our Lady of Good Counsel Church in West Boylston for many years.

Alice was an avid gardener and an accomplished bridge player. She enthusiastically enjoyed her time at the ocean in Manomet and her winters in Seminole, Florida where she regularly participated in bridge games and played with the "nine holers" at Seminole Lake Country Club. She cherished her time with her family and friends.

The funeral will be held Saturday, Feb. 5 from FAY BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, 1 W. Boylston St. with a Mass at 11:00 a.m. in Our Lady of Good Counsel Church, 111 Worcester St. Burial will be in the Spring in Mt. Vernon Cemetery. Calling hours are Friday, Feb. 4, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Jimmy Fund/Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, 10 Brookline Place West, 6th Floor, Brookline, 02445 or to Hospice Care.
