Americo L. "Lou" Forchielli, 79, formerly of Sherwood Dr. died Tuesday (Jan1) at the Oakdale Rehabilitation and Skilled Nursing Center, West Boylston after an illness.

His wife of 55 years Ersila R. (Rossi) Forchielli died in 1997. He leaves a daughter Gene Natale of Chicago, IL, a brother Gino Forchielli of Berlin, MD and Fort Meyers, FL, three grandchildren, Maria Natale of Warwick, RI, Gabriella Natale of Burlington, VT and Tino Natale of Portsmouth, RI, one great-grandson, and several nephews and nieces. Two brothers Anthony Forchielli of Bethleham, PA and John Forchielli of Alpha, NJ pre-deceased him. He was born in Alpha, NJ son of Nazareno and Virginia (Bavosi) Forchielli. He graduated from LaFayette College with a degree in Chemistry. He lived many years in Manchester and over twenty years in Sterling.

He was the Vice President of Butchers Chemical Co. in Marlborough in charge of Chemical Research for 13 years retiring in 1985, prior to that he was a technical director at Masury-Young Co in Boston and Alberto-Culver Chemical Co. in Illinois., and was a chemical researcher at the Department of the Army Picatinny Arsenal in New Jersey. He was substitute teacher in the Sterling School System.

He was a member of St. Richard of Chichester Church, he held several patterns in the area of Polymeric and Wax Research He was a member of the American Institute of Chemistry and the American Chemical Society,. He served on the Sterling Council on Aging, and was a volunteer with SCORE-U.S. Business Administration. He received a citation from the Army Ordinance for his work at the Picatinny Arsenal and was featured in the Who's Who Commerce and Industry and Who's Who National Italian American Association.

.A Funeral will be held Friday (Jan4) from Fay Brothers Funeral Home 1 West Boylston St. West Boylston with a Mass at 10 a.m. in St. Richard of Chichester Church 4 Bridge St. Burial will be in Hillside Cemetery. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society 30 Speen St. Framingham
