Arthur Andreopoulos

d. August 10, 2015

Arthur Andreopoulos, 88, of Charlton passed away on August 10, 2015, surrounded by his loving family.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Sally (Rudolf) Andreopoulos, formerly of Keene, NH.

Arthur (Andy, as his friends knew him), was born in Worcester, MA to Greek immigrants in 1927. He was a World War II and Korean War veteran, serving as a radio operator in the Army Air Corps. Throughout his years of service, he was stationed in various parts of Europe, and it was during that period of his life that he developed a great affinity for the European landscape and culture, particularly that of Austria, northern Italy, and Germany. After leaving the service, he worked as a radio operator for Eastern Airlines at Logan Airport in Boston, where he met his wife Sally. They moved to Smithtown, NY, in 1963 where Andy worked for Aeronautical Radio, Inc., directing overseas flights from Europe into Newark, Laguardia, and JFK. After retiring in 1989, he and Sally moved back to MA. They then traveled to several countries in Europe, which had been a life-long dream of theirs.

Andy will be remembered for his sharp intellect and keen sense of humor. He was an avid reader of the press, enjoyed following sports, studying history, and travel. He had a great appreciation for Hollywood's Golden Age and its corresponding music. He was known to be politically and culturally insightful and embodied an understated integrity that was the foundation of the family that became his legacy.

He will be greatly missed by his wife Sally and his five children: Cynthia Franck and her husband Dan of Shoreham, NY; Nancy McCarthy of Franklin, MA; Stephanie Stark and her husband George of West Boylston, MA; William Andreopoulos and his wife Jennifer of Speonk, NY; and Elizabeth Andreopoulos of Eastport, NY.

He was predeceased by his brother James Andreopoulos of Shrewsbury, MA, as well as his parents William and Ourania, and his sister Jane Sherbourne.

He was extremely proud of - and will be missed by - his 11 grandchildren: Daniel, Alexandra, and Sarah Franck; Amanda, Andrew, and Thomas McCarthy; Emily and James Stark; William and Lindsay Andreopoulos; and Zachary Irish.
