WEEKI WACHEE, FL-Audie M. Hunter, former owner of Audie's Beauty Room in Auburn and Audie's Beauty Salon in Tatnuck Square, Worcester, died Saturday, December 11th in Weeki Wachee, FL following a long illness. She was 91.
Her husband of 30 years, William W. Hunter died in 1974. An earlier marriage to Frank Goss (TN.) ended in divorce. She was predeceased in a later marriage to Carl W. Pearson (Auburn). She is survived by her children; Jeanne E. Hunter of Auburn, M. Sue Black of Weeki Wachee, FL., William Van Hunter of New York, NY, Vernon G. Hunter of Kingston, NY, K. Lynn Leland of Mt. Airy, MD and Richard C. Hunter of Orlando, FL. Her son, Vernon G. Goss died in 1960 and her daughter Nancy R. Hunter died in 1963.
One of 10 children born to Richard and Harriet (Garret) Cox in Crossville, TN, she moved to Miami during WWII and helped in the war effort working as a "Rosie the Riveter" and soon became an inspector for Conair Aircraft. Relocating after the war to Auburn, she was active with Eastern Star, Pakachoag Congregational Church, P.T.A., and the Girl and Boy Scouts.
A graduate of Brom's Hairdressing Academy in Worcester, and Seminole Community College in FL., she contended her best education came from traveling around the world aboard the Queen Elizabeth II World Cruise in 1986 and the MS Vistaflord World Cruise in 1987.
The funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM on Thursday, December 16, at Pakachoag Church, 203 Pakachoag Street, Auburn, MA 01501. Burial will follow at Hillside Cemetery, Auburn. Visiting hours are from 4 to 7 PM, Wednesday, December 15 at LINDQUIST LUNDIN FUNERAL HOME, 36 Butler Street, Worcester, MA 01607.
