WORCESTER-Barbara A (Auren) McGrath, 88, of Palmer and formerly of Worcester, peacefully passed away on Wednesday, May 27 in Palmer.
She leaves behind her three children, her daughter, Deborah Chouinard and husband Donald of Bluffton, SC, son Michael and fiancé, Diane Carlson of Newburyport and youngest son Thomas and wife Deborah of Palmer. She was blessed to have seven grandchildren and seven great grandchildren, Christopher Chouinard and wife Jessie and their kids Jamie and Olivia of Anderson, SC, Elizabeth Kazarian and husband Kyle and their son, Kyle of Worcester, Samantha McGrath and husband Nick Bunker of Oxford, Matthew Chouinard and wife Laura and their children Claire and Maggie of Omaha, NE, Kaitlin Chouinard of Pendleton, SC, Jessica Sexton and husband Collin and their children Kaden and Karson of Chicopee and Joshua McGrath of Palmer. She also leaves a sister, Nancy Beam along with sister and brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews and many friends. She was predeceased by her parents, Stanley and Pauline (Lagerstrom)Auren and the love of her life, her husband of 64 years Thomas J. McGrath Jr. who passed in 2022.
Barbara worked as a cafeteria worker at Forest Grove School before she was a teacher’s aide at Nelson Place and Wawecus Elementary schools.
Barbara was an avid Red Sox fan, doting grandmother and great grandmother. She was a social butterfly who loved hosting holiday parties, watching TV, doing word searches, and attending all of her grandchildren's sporting events. Barbara was a parishioner of St Joan of Arc and volunteered at the food pantry for several years. She supported many charities. She will be greatly missed.
Visiting Hour will be held Monday, June 1 from 9:30-10:30am at Callahan Fay Caswell Funeral Home, 61 Myrtle St. A Funeral Mass will be held at 11am in St. Joan of Arc Church, 570 Lincoln St. Burial will be in St. John’s Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please give to Alzheimer’s Association at Alzheimer's Association or a charity of your choice.
