WORCESTER-Barbara Mary Shugrue, 93, formerly of Shaffner Street, died Thursday, January 23, 2020 at Notre Dame Long Term Care Center.
She was born in Worcester, daughter of Leo S. and Helen F. (Bush) Shugrue and graduated from Sacred Heart Academy in Fall River. Barbara continued her education at Emmanuel College where she graduated in 1949, and then completed her graduate studies at Worcester State Teachers College. She had a long career teaching in Worcester Public Schools.
Barbara loved to travel and went on may trips all over the world. She enjoyed spending summers at Rhode Island, especially at her favorite spot, Narragansett Pier and was an avid dollhouse collector.
Barbara will be dearly missed by her sisters, Joan Brown of Holden and Pauline Shugrue of Worcester. She also leaves many nephews, nieces and great nephews and great nieces. Beside her parents, she was predeceased by her brother Richard Shugrue.
Funeral Services for Barbara will be held Friday, January 31st with a visiting hour from 9-10am at Callahan, Fay & Caswell Funeral Home, 61 Myrtle Street, followed by her Funeral Mass at 10:30am at the Notre Dame du Lac Chapel, 555 Plantation Street. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery.
