SHREWSBURY- Bartholomew G. "Bart" O'Connell, 73, passed away on Sunday, November 25, 2018.
Bart, born on September 23, 1945, in Cahersiveen, County Kerry, Ireland, a son of the late Bartholomew and Bridget (Casey) O'Connell. He emigrated to the United States with his family in 1955 and settled in the Vernon Hill section of Worcester. He became a US citizen in 1960. He graduated from St. Peter's High School in 1966. He had a 40-year career with the Norton Company in the Refinery Plant 6. He was a member of the Ancient Order of Hibernians and enjoyed playing bocce ball on Shrewsbury St.
Bart proudly served in the Massachusetts National Guard and enjoyed watching sports and helping family and friends with various projects or whatever else they needed from him.
Bart led by his actions and made everyone laugh, had a larger than life personality and was a great role model to many. He will be sorely missed.
His memory will live on in the heart of his son, Matthew R. O'Connell and his wife, Lori, and his three grandchildren, Carter, Chloe and Cayla O'Connell of Austin, TX; his siblings, Denis O'Connell, Brendan Joseph O'Connell and Patrick O'Connell, and their families; many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews and extended family members and friends.
A special thank you goes out to his nephew, Brian, his niece, Elizabeth, and his brother, Denis. Also, special gratitude goes out to the wonderful caregivers at the DaVita Dialysis Center.
Family and friends will gather to honor, remember and celebrate Bart's life on Saturday, December 1st from 1:30pm until 4:30pm at the Callahan, Fay & Caswell Funeral Home, 61 Myrtle St., Worcester. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of his name should be made to the American Diabetes Association.
