WORCESTER-Bennett B. Birtz, 78, formerly of Southwest Cutoff died Wednesday, Jan. 19 in Beaumont Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, Northbridge after a courageous battle with cancer.
His wife, Mary A. (Pellegrini) Birtz died in 1997. He leaves two sons, David B. Birtz of Winchendon and Stephen husband of JoAnn Birtz of N. Grafton; a daughter, Sandra B. Evans of Whitinsville; two brothers, Durwood W. Birtz of Lincoln, Maine and Wilfred E. Birtz of Orange Park, FL; a sister, Dawne Ann Birtz of Worcester; five grandchildren, Heather Bolack, Justin and Matthew Birtz and Joseph and Kayla Evans; a great grandson, Keegan Ohene, nieces and nephews. A grandson, Michael Evans died in 2000.
He was born in Worcester son of Wilfred J. and Beatrice M. (Boyce) Birtz and was a Navy veteran of WW II. He lived 23 years in Grafton before moving back to Worcester. Mr. Birtz was a truck driver for 24 years for M&M Transportation. He was a member of St. Catherine of Sweden Church and the Teamsters Local %23170.
The funeral will be Saturday, Jan. 22 at 10:00 a.m. in St. Catherine of Sweden Church, 1 Wiser Ave. Burial will be in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Bennett's memory may be made to the American Cancer Society, 30 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701. LINDQUIST LUNDIN FUNERAL HOME, 36 Butler St. is directing arrangements.
