Bernice E. (Magnuson) Salmonsen, 87, passed away Sunday, February 21 at the home of her daughter, Christine. She leaves her two daughters, Lee M. Salmonsen of South Bend, IA and Christine A. Joiner and her husband, Charles E. Joiner of Webster; four grandchildren, Sara M. Campbell, Robert J. Sullivan, Katharine L. Neff and Alexander B. Neff; two great grandchildren, Kiley F. Arpin and Elias N. Arpin and several cousins. Bernice was predeceased by her grandson, Nicholas R. Sullivan and longtime companion, Arnold Sharp.
Bernice was born on May 7, 1928 the daughter of John H. and Evelyn M. (Hedlund) Magnuson. She graduated from Classical High School in Springfield and attended the Worcester Art Museum School. Bernice worked as a decorator for Marcus Co., Denholm & McKay as a display coordinator, The Fair as an advertising artist, she then moved to the Cape and worked for Thayer Flowers as a designer for many years before retiring. Bernice was a former member of Bethlehem Covenant Church and sang in its choir for many years. She also sang in the Messiah. She was a member of the former Worcester Operetic Society. Bernice was a very creative person and loved painting and gardening. She was a lifelong Red Sox fan and would never miss a game.
A Graveside Service will be held on Tuesday, February 23rd at 11:30 am at All Faiths Cemetery, 7 Island Rd., Worcester. There are no visiting hours. Arrangements are in the care of LINDQUIST LUNDIN Funeral Home, 36 Butler St., Worcester. Memorial donations may be made to the Community Cat Connection, 289 Thompson Rd., Webster, MA 01570.
