Beverly J. Schofield

June 19, 1940 — May 1, 2023

Beverly J. (Gammell) Schofield, 82, a lifelong resident of West Boylston, passed away unexpectedly on May 1, 2023, at Oakdale Rehabilitation and Skilled Nursing Center.

She was born on June 19, 1940 in Worcester to Henry Gammell and Viola (Rebidue) Gammell. Beverly graduated from West Boylston High School in 1953 as a member of the first graduating class. “Bev” attended Tufts University in Boston, where she earned a bachelor's degree in teaching. She began her career teaching, coaching basketball and field hockey at Wachusett High School and later taught Physical Education and Health at West Boylston High School, where she also served as a field hockey coach for the school. Bev's impact on her students, colleagues, and community was immeasurable. She will always be remembered for her infectious smile and warmness as a kind, caring, and devoted teacher and coach who made a real difference in the lives of those she touched.

In addition to her career, Bev had a love for reading, puzzles, and observing all kinds of birds. She enjoyed spending time with friends at the coffee shop and was fortunate enough to have traveled around the world. Beverly adored her grandchildren and cherished every moment she had with them, never missing a chance to cheer them on at their activities.  She was their biggest fan and will be deeply missed.

Beverly is survived by her children, Mark Schofield and his wife, Judy of Shrewsbury, and David Schofield and his wife, Nancy of Portsmouth, NH; her grandchildren, Cassie and Logan Schofield; many grand pets, numerous cousins, friends, and students.

Family and friends are welcomed to a celebration of Bev’s life with visiting hours on Friday, May 5th from 4:00-7:00pm at Fay Brothers Life Celebration Home, 1 West Boylston St., West Boylston. Her burial will be held privately.
