WORCESTER- Boleslaw “Bill” J. Gancarz, 96, passed away peacefully on August 21, 2023, at the Lutheran Skilled Rehabilitation and Nursing Center.

He was the beloved husband of the late, Leocadia T. “Lorraine” (Markiewicz) Gancarz who died in 2016, with whom he shared 66 beautiful years.

He was born in Worcester on December 7, 1926, a son of the late Adam M. and Ludwika (Burdzel) Gancarz. Bill was raised in Worcester and following his graduation from Commerce High School he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps to proudly serve his country during both WWII and the Korean War, which included active combat in the Pacific during WWII. Following his safe return, Bill attended Worcester State College where he earned an associate degree. For many years Bill was employed as an industrial engineer with both the former Crompton and Knolls Company in Worcester and Bay State Abrasive Product Company in Westborough along with several other companies.  He was a proud member and post commander of the VFW Post 479 in Worcester for many years.

He will be forever loved and deeply missed by his two sons, Michael Gancarz and his wife, Deborah of South Grafton and Robert J. Gancarz and his wife, Nancy of Bedford, NH; his grandchildren, David Gancarz and his wife, Kara of Franklin, Jennifer Gancarz of Dudley, Ryan Gancarz of Woburn, Jeffrey and Lauren Gancarz, both of Goffstown, NH; a great grandchild, Lucy Gancarz; his loving sister, Florence Dionne of Worcester; several nieces, nephews and extended family members.

Besides his parents and loving wife, Bill was predeceased by four siblings, Sophie Ackerman, Henry Gancarz, Mickey Mioduszewski, and Walter Gancarz.

Family and friends will gather to celebrate Bill’s life on Thursday, August 31st with visitation from 8:30am until 10:00am at the Callahan, Fay & Caswell Life Celebration Home, 61 Myrtle St., Worcester. A prayer service will begin at 10:15am in the funeral home and burial will conclude in Notre Dame Cemetery.
