DOUGLAS
Lorance P. "Bucky" Salmonsen, 85, passed away peacefully on Thurs., March 27, surrounded by his family. He was born on Dec., 22, 1922 son of the late Lorance and Sarah (Scott) Salmonsen. He leaves his wife of 65 years, Elaine (Emanuelson) Salmonsen; two sons, Lance and his wife Betsy Salmonsen of Uxbridge and Glen "Skip" and his wife Patty Salmonsen of Douglas; a brother, Robert Salmonsen of Douglas; five grand-daughters; three great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews. A sister, Ima Anderson and a step-brother, Gary Salmonsen predeceased him. He was born in Worcester and attended Worcester schools and graduated from Carson Long Military Institute. He was a decorated Army Veteran of WWII and fought at Omaha Beach on D Day. Mr. Salmonsen was also one of "The battling bastards" of Bastogne, refusing to surrender to the German Army during the Battle of the Bulge in December of 1944.
Following WWII, Mr. Salmonsen worked in the family milk business, Salmonsen's Dairy of Worcester. He became president of the dairy and worked there until it closed in 1978. He then worked as a milk salesman for the former Deary Bros. Dairy in Webster, the former Meola's Dairy in West Boylston and also Acme Prepak of Worcester. He was a longtime member of Quinsigamond United Methodist Church. He was a freemason for over 50 years and was a member of the Morningstar Lodge and was very active in freemasonery. Some of Bucky's hobbies were fishing, boating and spending time with his family.
A Funeral Service will be held Sat., March 29, at 10:30 in Quinsigamond United Methodist Church, 9 Stebbins St., Worcester. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Memorial Fund at Quinsigamond United Methodist, 9 Stebbins St., Worcester, 01607.
