WORCESTER-Carmela M. (Spadea) Amato, 77, of 429 Chandler St. died Friday, Oct. 7 in UMass Memorial Healthcare-Memorial Campus after a long struggle with leukemia.
Her husband, Joseph M. Amato died in 1995. She leaves a daughter, Janet Keller with whom she lived; a son, Frank J. Best, Jr. of Uxbridge; five sisters, Ann Bailey, Josephine Andrukonis and Rose Spadea all of Worcester, Mary Brooks of Leicester and Pauline Tenney of Lake Placid, FL; a brother, James Spadea of Worcester; nieces and nephews.
She was born in Woonsocket, RI daughter of Gregorio and Diega (Santoro) Spadea and lived in Worcester for many years. Carmela was a domestic housekeeper for 35 years, enjoyed baseball and was an avid New York Yankees fan.
The funeral will be Tuesday, Oct. 11 from CALLAHAN & FAY BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, 61 Myrtle St. with a Mass at 10:00 a.m. at St. Charles Borromeo Church, 341 June St. Burial will be in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton. Calling hours will be Monday, Oct. 10 from 6:00 until 9:00 p.m. in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Peter Levine Cancer Center, 33 Kendall St., Worcester, MA 01605.
