Dr. Catherine M. Brennan M.D. of Worcester died Tues., July 3 in the Rose Monahan Hospice Home.
She leaves a brother, James and his wife Linda Brennan of Tennessee; a niece, Anne M. Thurston, her principal caregiver and several other nieces and nephews and many friends. Two brothers, Harry and William and a sister, Patricia A. Jenning, predeceased her. She was born in Worcester, daughter of William and Catherine (Hurley) Brennan and graduated from Ascension High School, Mass. General Hospital School of Nursing, the College of New Rochelle, Cornell University School of Medicine and the University of Saskatchewan College of Medicine.
Dr. Brennan practiced medicine for many years, beginning her residencies in Carney Hospital and Worcester City Hospital as a general practitioner and a family doctor with a specialty in obstetrics and pediatric care. Then she went on to become a staff member at Worcester City Hospital, St. Vincent Hospital, Fairlawn Hospital and UMASS Hospital and in her later years she was a general practitioner in private practice. She retired in April 2007 due to illness. She was a member of St. Catherine of Sweden Church, the Mass. Medical Society, the Worcester District Medical Society and was awarded America's Top Physician in 2004-2005. She enjoyed spending time on Cape Cod.
The funeral will be held Sat., July 5, from CALLAHAN & FAY BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, 61 Myrtle St. with a Mass at 11:30 AM in St. Catherine of Sweden Church, 1 Wiser Ave. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery. Visiting Hours are Fri., July 6, from 5 to 7 PM at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Rose Monahan Hospice House, 10 Judith Rd., Worcester, 01602.
