Catherine Gabbett Slein

WORCESTER: Catherine (O’Halloran) Gabbett Slein, 90, of Worcester, passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 8, 2026, surrounded by her loved ones.

She is survived by her two children, Kevin Gabbett and his wife, Catherine, and Suzanne Provencal; a brother, John O’Halloran, a sister, Bernadette Sculane; six grandchildren, Kevin Gabbett, Ryan Gabbett, Alexi Provencal, Carol Anne Provencal, Mikaela Shelby Pivonka, and Christopher Shelby; seven great grandchildren, Sophia, Brayden, Kylie, Amelia, Isla, Ethan, and Sloane; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was predeceased by her first husband, Kevin P. Gabbett; her second husband, Robert J. Slein; daughter, Carol Anne Gabbett, son in law, Edward “Rusty” Provencal, sisters, Maureen Niedzialkoski, and Anne O’Halloran, and brother, Thomas O’Halloran.

Born in Mount Callan, County Clare, Ireland, Catherine was the daughter of the late John and Anne (Carney) O’Halloran. She immigrated to the United States in 1954, where she worked as a nanny before joining New England Telephone Co., from which she retired in 1990. Catherine had a passion for bowling and loved to cook and bake. She found joy in shopping trips and had a particular fondness for butter crunch ice cream. Above all, she was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, and her presence will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the caregivers and staff of Eisenberg Assisted Living and Jewish Healthcare for their compassionate care and support.

Her Funeral will be held on Monday, January 12th, from Callahan, Fay & Caswell Life Celebration Home, 61 Myrtle St., Worcester with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10AM in St. John’s Church, 40 Temple St., Worcester. Burial will follow in Notre Dame Cemetery. Calling hours will be held on Sunday, January 11th, from 4 until 6PM in the funeral home. The family kindly asks for flowers to be omitted and instead encourages flowers to be sent to a loved one who is still with us. In Catherine’s memory, everyone is also encouraged to indulge in a bowl of butter crunch ice cream!
