Catherine “Kay” Hanson, 80, of Worcester, Massachusetts, died peacefully on May 31, 2026. Kay was born in Bristol, Connecticut, the daughter of Stephen and Mary Lenis (Poulos). She grew up in Shrewsbury, working in her family’s business, the Bright Star Dairy Barn, before spending many years as a homemaker for the elderly until her retirement. She was married for 33 years to the love of her life, Paul, who preceded her in death.

Kay and Paul shared a wonderful sense of humor and a deep love of music and the beach. Elvis Presley was her favorite musician, but her record collection—spanning the 1950s, ’60s, and ’70s—reflected her wide-ranging taste, with Motown holding a special place in her heart. She grew up watching Dick Clark on American Bandstand and carried that love of music throughout her life. She also enjoyed sewing and knitting, and she treasured summer trips to the Maine coast, especially family vacations at Old Orchard Beach.

Kay’s strong will and independent spirit defined her. If she wanted to go somewhere or do something, she simply pushed her walker along and made it happen. She put the wellbeing of others before her own and cared deeply for her family and friends.

Kay is survived by her son, Kurt, his wife Paula, and their son Thomas; her niece Stephanie and Stephanie’s daughter, Samatha. She was preceded in death by her sister, Chris. She also leaves behind her dear friend of many years, Dianne Seferi, who stood by her through both joyful and difficult times, and her friend Dianna, whom she met while caring for Dianna’s parents as a home health aide.

Kay’s family and friends extend their heartfelt thanks to the many care providers who supported her throughout the years.

Services were held privately for the family.
