Cecelia A. Bender

Cecelia A. (Clarke) Bender of Sutton for the past four years, formerly of Worcester died Tuesday, Oct. 6 in St. Vincent Hospital.
Her husband of 51 years, Alphonse Bender died in 1997. She leaves two children, James Bender and his wife, Katherine of Barre and Jean M. Anger and her husband Brian with whom she lived; two sisters, Eva Savage of Melbourne FL and Dorothy Brooks of Auburn; a brother, Robert Clarke of Worcester; five grandchildren, Aaron Bender and his wife Nicky, Amy Curtis and her husband Steve, Brian Anger and his girlfriend Kharissa Meo, Timothy Anger and his girlfriend Jennifer Francini and Jillian Anger and her fiance Gino Alfeo; great-grandchildren, Alex and Laila Bender and Avery, Taylor and James Curtis and several nieces and nephews. Three brothers, Harry Clarke, Frank Clarke and Walter Clarke and two sisters, Laura Mahan and Virginia Nagle predeceased her. She was born in Worcester, daughter of Harry and Anna (Caroll) Clarke. She was to young to serve in the United States Military, during WWII so she went to Canada and served in the Canadian Women's Army Corp.
Cecelia retired from the Worcester School Department as a kindergarten aide, she worked for many years at the College of the Holy Cross in their dining area. She was a member of St. John's Church for many years and helped with the lunch program.
The funeral will be held Friday, October 9, from Callahan & Fay Brothers Funeral Home, 61 Myrtle St. with a Mass at 10 AM in St. John's Church, 40 Temple St. Burial will be in Notre Dame Cemetery. Visiting Hours are Thursday, October 8, from 5 to 8 PM at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Abby's House, 52 High St. Worcester, 01609.
