Cesar L. Matias Santiago,81, beloved father, grandfather, great grandfather and community member, passed away peacefully on October 4, 2025, at UMASS Hospital, surrounded by his family. Born on December 8, 1943, in Adjuntas, Puerto Rico, Cesar was a man who cherished the importance of family and instilled that same value in his children.
Cesar dedicated much of his career as a truck driver for White Cleaners before transitioning to a role in facility maintenance at Flynn's Truck Stop, where he was well-respected for his hard work and dedication.
A man of great personality, Cesar was supportive to both his immediate and extended family, always advocating for the value of strong connections. He was known for being well-dressed and impeccably put together, reflecting his belief in presenting oneself with pride. His love for life was evident in his passions; he enjoyed traveling, fishing, and cooking, often sharing delicious meals with those he loved. Cesar also had a profound appreciation for folk music native to Puerto Rico, he was often found enjoying tunes that resonated with his rich cultural heritage.
Cesar was a devoted father to three sons: Cesar Matias, Jr. of Worcester, Javier Matias and his wife, Isabel, of Worcester, and Alejandro Matias and his wife, Nancy, of Worcester; and a loving daughter, Maritza Ramos of Worcester. He took immense joy in his role as a grandfather to five grandchildren: Anderson, Anthony, Saisha, Giovanni, and Zuriel, and he was proud to have seven great-grandchildren, along with several nieces and nephews who held a special place in his heart.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Angelina Flores Cruz, in 2024, and his parents, Severa Santiago and Evangelista Matias. Cesar's legacy will live on through his family, who will forever cherish the lessons he taught and the love he shared.
Family and friends are welcomed to a celebration of Cesar's life with visiting on Friday, October 17, 2025, from 4:00pm until 7:00pm at Callahan Fay Caswell Life Celebration Home, located at 61 Myrtle St, Worcester. His final resting place will be in Puerto Rico.
