PAXTON-Charles F. Luyrink, MD

Charles F. Luyrink of Paxton and Harwich Port, a physician at Harrington Memorial Hospital, died at home on Tuesday, March 1, 2011.
Dr. Luyrink was born on April 18, 1929 in the Netherlands. He was the son of the late Dirk and Ernanny (De Vries) Luyrink.
He leaves his beloved wife of 50 years Patricia M. (Otter) Luyrink. He also leaves his loving children and adored grandchildren: Lorie K. Luyrink and her fianc%C3%A9 Doug Gilham of Pleasant Plain, OH, John C. Luyrink and his wife Carol of West Brookfield and Nantucket, MA, their sons Jack, Matthew and Benjamin, Jane E. and her husband Curtis A. Babb of South Yarmouth, MA, their daughter Sarah, Amy R. and her husband John E. Mawn, Jr. of Harwich, MA, their children Emma, Liam and Lucy.
He is predeceased by his sister Friedy Bergman and leaves his sister Paula Luyrink as well as nieces and nephews all of the Netherlands.
Dr. Luyrink graduated from Leiden University Medical School. He then moved to the United States where he completed his internship at Santa Monica Hospital in California and his residencies at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit and City Hospital in Worcester.
Dr. Luyrink served as Chief of Pathology at Harrington Memorial Hospital in Southbridge, MA. Under his leadership at Harrington, the hospital was accredited by the College of American Pathologists. Throughout his 46-year career, he was a President of the Medical Staff, an advisor to Medicaid, and the head of the Quality Assurance Committee. Dr. Luyrink was a fellow of the American Society of Clinical Pathologists and the College of American Pathologists. He was a member of The New England Medical Society, The Worcester District Medical Society, and The Southbridge Medical Society, where he served as president. Dr. Luyrink retired on October 1, 2010.
Chuck was an outstanding athlete and played on the Dutch National Hockey Team, which competed against the U.S. Olympic Team. He was a passionate sports fan who attended many of the Boston teams greatest games. Chuck was an avid reader of history with a great interest in World War II. He had a great love of art and was an accomplished photographer. He was a member of Tatnuck Country Club in Worcester, MA.
The memorial service will be held Monday, March 7, 2011 at 11am in Paxton Congregational Church, Paxton, MA. A reception will follow at Tatnuck Country Club. Calling hours will be on Sunday, March 6 from 5 to 8pm in the Lindquist Lundin Funeral Home, 36 Butler Street, Worcester, MA.
