WORCESTER- Charles J. Sawicki, Jr., 91, of Worcester, passed away peacefully on Friday, January 5, 2018 at Royal Spring Valley Nursing Home where he has been a resident for 11 years. Charles made many friends while there and he received wonderful care from the staff. He was born July 13, 1926 in Worcester, son of the late Charles J. Sawicki, Sr. and Olga M. (Erickson) Sawicki and graduated from Worcester Boys Trade High School.
Mr. Sawicki was a Navy veteran of WWII and was the recipient of four medals; the World War II Victory Medal, American Area Medal, Asiatic Pacific Medal and the Philippine Liberation Medal. After being honorably discharged from the Navy in 1946, Charles went to work for the Laborers Local Union of Worcester for many years.
Charles was predeceased by his wife Anne M. (Mulcahy) Sawicki in 1997. He is survived by three daughters, Anne Smilie, Cheryl Cournoyer and Joann Strub; many grandchildren and great grandchildren; his beloved sister, Eleanor M. Conrad of Marlborough; his nephew, David Conrad and niece, Charlene Poulos.
Funeral services and interment with military honors will be held at Noon on Friday, January 19th in the Massachusetts Veterans' Cemetery,111 Glenallen Street, Winchendon, MA 01475. Arrangements are in the care of Callahan Fay & Caswell Funeral Home, 61 Myrtle Street, Worcester.
