WORCESTER-Christopher C. Evans, 65, passed away in the presence of dear friends on Saturday, June 30th, 2018 at Saint Vincent Hospital.
Chris was a lover of music and the Red Sox, the beach and was a connoisseur of a fine hot dog and a fabulous doughnut. He was a voracious reader of historical novels, sports and the local paper until his illness made reading difficult and then an enjoyment of TV mysteries was born.
He was a fighter: stubborn, kind, romantic and funny with a dry, acerbic wit. Many years of dealing with chronic illness never crushed his indomitable spirit nor tarnished his kind, gentle disposition.
Chris graduated from Doherty High School and earned his Bachelor's degree from Boston University. Mr. Evan's owned Bus Stop Records in Newton many years ago, and later worked at UMass Memorial Medical School.
He is survived by his son, Jonathan Evans, his wife Miriam and their son Gus, his mother, Ruth R. (Wheaton) Evans, a brother, Rex of Worcester, and a sister, Nancy of New Jersey. He also leaves his long-time love and caregiver, Leslie Russell and his faithful feline, Commissioner. He was predeceased by a son, Michael Evans and his father, Charles H. Evans.
The family would like to express their thanks to the doctors and nurses of Saint Vincent Hospitals ICU and PCU Units for their compassionate care during the last month, especially Cathy, Charlotte and Aimee. Thank you also to Chris's two PCA's, Candie Winer and Jeannie Torres.
A Celebration of Life will take place at 3:00pm on Sunday, July 8th at Callahan, Fay & Caswell Funeral Home, 61 Myrtle Street. A visiting hour will also be held on Sunday from 2:00pm until the time of the service.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Chris's memory may be made to Memorials and Tributes National Multiple Sclerosis Society, Greater New England Chapter, 101A First Avenue, Waltham, MA 02451 or visit www.nationalmssociety.org
