Colwyn D. Caffrey 74, of 42 Richmond Ave. died Thursday, April 1, at home after an illness.
He leaves his wife of 52 years, Eleanor A. (Mauke); three sons, John A. Caffrey of Worcester, Jeffrey S. Caffrey of Long Island, NY, and Douglas E. Caffrey of Milford; five daughters, Colyne E. Germain of Auburn, Nancy L. Brunell of Sturbridge, Susan H. Scavone of Worcester, Eleanor A. Caffrey-Bianchini and Martha M. Caffrey both of Charlton; two brothers, Edwin J. Caffrey of Williamsport, PA and James G. Caffrey of D'Iberville, MS; a sister, Gwyneth Bombard of Worcester; 15 grandchildren; and nieces and nephews. Three sons, James J. Caffrey, Stephen C. Caffrey and William N. Caffrey, predeceased him. He was born in Worcester, son of James and Ida (Sheehan) Caffrey. He graduated from St. Peter's High School and attended Assumption College and Clark University. He served in the Army National Guard.
Mr. Caffrey was a Salesman for Pioneer Oil Company and a Bartender at Donahue's Caf%C3%A9 for many years before retiring.
He was a member of St. Peter's Church and founding organizer of the Jessie Burkett Little League and co-founder of the Sacred Heart "Biddy Basketball". Colwyn was an avid reader, sports enthusiast and loved politics.
Mr. and Mrs. Caffrey started the Flag Fund for flying the United States Flag over the Worcester Union Station, in memory of their three sons.
The Funeral will be held TUESDAY, April 6, from FAY BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, 9 Hammond St. with a Mass at 9 a.m. in St. Peter's Church, 931 Main St. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery. Calling Hours are SUNDAY, April 4, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
