WORCESTER-Daniel J. Lucas, 82, died Monday, December 26 in St. Vincent Hospital after a brief illness. He leaves his wife of 58 years, Jane F. (Prokopowich) Lucas, a son, Donald W. Lucas and his wife Linda of Old Saybrook, CT, two daughters, Mary Jane Rasku and her husband William of Holden and Nancy Zelesky and her husband James of Hiram, ME, ten grandchildren, a great grandson, many nephews and nieces. He was predeceased by three brothers, William, Joseph and Peter and a sister, Mary Cunic.
He was born in Worcester, son of Anthony and Sophia (Vinslavich) Lucason, graduated from Boys Trade High School and attended Bentley College. He was a World War II Army veteran serving in the Military Police in Cairo, Egypt. Daniel was a sergeant on the Worcester Police Department retiring after 40 years. He was also a limousine driver at Callahan Brothers Funeral Home for many years. He was an avid gardener, reader and builder of stone walls, which surround his yard.
The funeral will be Thursday, December 29 from CALLAHAN & FAY BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, 61 Myrtle Street with a Mass at 10:30 AM in Our Lady of Czestochowa Church, 34 Ward Street. Burial will be private. Visiting hours will be Wednesday, December 28 from 5:00 until 8:00 PM in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the Dana Farber's Cancer Institute-Jimmy Fund, 10 Brookline Place West, 6th Floor, Brookline, MA 02445-7226, Attn: contribution Services.
