WORCESTER-Donald R. O'Brien, Sr., 76, died on Saturday, January 29, 2011.

His loving wife of 32 years, Marian R. (Griffin) O'Brien died in 1988. He leaves his beloved children, Donald R. O'Brien, Jr. and his wife Pamela J. (McNamara) O'Brien of Auburn and Sarah T. O'Brien of Worcester with whom he lived with. He also leaves three grandchildren, who were his pride and joy, Donald R. O'Brien, III and his wife Kimberly A. (LaRochelle) O'Brien, Kaitlin R. O'Brien and Megan J. O'Brien; two brothers, John "Jack" O'Brien of Worcester and Joseph O'Brien of Salisbury, NC; two sisters, Sr. Clare O'Brien, S.S.J. of Holyoke and Margaret Bolduc of Auburn; his close friend, Ann O'Brien of Jefferson and many nieces and nephews. Two sisters, Mary Thompson and Joanne Dacey and three brothers, Paul, James and Robert O'Brien predeceased him.

Donald was born in Worcester the son of James and Irene (Brigham) O'Brien and graduated from St. Stephen's High School in 1953. He served in the U.S. Army. Mr. O'Brien worked as a supervisor for A & P Supermarkets for 25 years and then worked as an assistant manager for the Environmental Building Services at UMass Medical for 16 years before retiring. He enjoyed spending time with his family and his daily routine of picking up his brother Jack to go to Dunkin Donuts. Donald was a diehard Red Sox fan and loved all New England sports teams.

The funeral will be held on Tuesday, February 1, 2011 from CALLAHAN & FAY BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, 61 Myrtle St. with a Mass at 10:00 AM at Sacred Heart-St Catherine of Sweden Church, 600 Cambridge St. Interment will be in St. John's Cemetery. Visiting hours will be on Monday, January 31, 2011 from 5:00 to 8:00 PM in the funeral home.
