Doris M. (Reed) White, 92, passed away on Saturday, March 19th at the Christopher House of Worcester surrounded by her loving family. Her husband of 33 years, Frederick J. White died in 1983.

She will be missed by her loving children, Thomas White and his wife Ruth Ann of Worcester, Frederick White and his wife Carla of Virginia, Timothy White and his wife Jo-Ann of Worcester, Eileen Vigeant and her husband Robert of Paxton, Karen Crotty and her husband Joseph of Worcester; a brother, Francis Reed of Worcester; a sister, Ceceilia O'Brien of Worcester; fifteen grandchildren and fifteen great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.

Doris was predeceased by her brother Robert Reed and her sister Rosemary Ricciuti.

She was born in Worcester on September 23, 1923 to the late Homer and Rose (Carney) Reed. She attended local schools and in 1944 graduated from the former Worcester City Hospital School of Nursing. She went on to proudly serve her country in the United States Army as a Registered Nurse in Europe during World War II.

For many years she worked at the former Worcester City Hospital where she remained active in their Alumni association. In 1948 Doris and a friend went to North Carolina to volunteer in administering aide to those affected by the Polio epidemic. She was instrumental in establishing homeless health services in Worcester, working many years at the Salvation Army and PIP Shelter.

Doris remained active and adventurous after retirement. She traveled extensively across the world with family and friends. She enjoyed gardening, reading and most of all, spending time with her large extended family.

The family would like to extend their thanks to the staff of Christopher House and JHC Hospice for their kindness and compassionate care.

Visiting hours will be on Wednesday, March 23rd from 5:00pm until 8:00pm at the CALLAHAN-FAY & CASWELL FUNERAL HOME, 61 Myrtle St., Worcester. A Liturgy of the Word will be on Thursday, March 24th at 10:00am at St. Andrew the Apostle Church, 5 Spaulding St., Worcester. Burial will follow at St. John Cemetery.
