Dorothea C. Mahoney, 73, of Worcester passed away Thursday, October 5 in UMASS Memorial Medical Center.
She leaves her significant other, Robert Zach Moseley; her sons, Colin J. Haley and his wife, Amory of Louisville, KY and Brendan L. Haley and his wife, Jessica of Mattapan; two grandchildren, Kane and Bryn Haley; five siblings, Gregory R. Mahoney of Princeton, Mary E. Braney and her husband, Paul of Spencer, Helen M. West and her husband, Alan of Framingham, Jacquelyn F. Mushinsky of Spencer and Barbara M. Shea of Worcester; three stepchildren, Joseph Moseley and his wife, Hoda of Windham, NH, Melissa Lombardi and her husband, Victor of Bellingham and Stacey Moseley of Plainfield, CT; and many wonderful nieces and nephews. Two brothers, James M. Mahoney, Jr. and John H. Mahoney predeceased her. She was born in Worcester, daughter of James M. and Dorothea F. (Smalley) Mahoney and graduated from Notre Dame Academy, Stonehill College and received her master’s degree from Clark University.
Dorothea was a special education teacher for St. Stephen’s School and the Worcester Public Schools, prior to that she worked as an executive director and volunteered for 40 years for Worcester County 4-H in Spencer, prior to that she worked for Bowditch and Marinelli. She was a certified energy practitioner. Dorothea was a wonderful friend who spent hours of her day helping others.
Visiting Hours are Tuesday, October 10 from 4 to 7pm at Callahan Fay Caswell Life Celebration Home, 61 Myrtle St. A Funeral Mass will be held Wednesday, October 11 at 10am in Our Lady of the Angels Church, 1222 Main St. Burial will be in St. John’s Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Massachusetts 4-H Foundation at www.mass4hfoundation.org
