Dorothea Dottie Skinner

WORCESTER-Dorothea "Dottie" (Powers) Skinner, 100, died Thursday, January 7 at Hermitage Nursing Home. She leaves two daughters, E. Helene Hanam of Auburn and Catherine R. Spiegel of CA; five grandchildren, Edward J. Hanam, Jr. and his wife Michelle of CO, Jeffrey A. Hanam and his wife Cynthia of Shrewsbury, MA, Karen J. Bremer and her husband Randy of CA, Karen J. Clendenin of VA and Kimberly Clendenin of VA; four great grandchildren, Katelyn J. and Jessica J. Hanam of Shrewsbury and Kaelyn and Sydney Bremer of CA. She also leaves a brother Chester Powers and a sister, Myrtle Kennedy wife of Dr. George Kennedy, all of Newfoundland; two sons-in-law, Edward J. Hanam, Sr. and his wife Susan of Grafton and Eugene Clendenin and his wife Mary Jane of VA; many nephews and nieces. She was predeceased by a daughter, Carol J. Clendenin, who was the twin sister of Catherine R. Spiegel, three brothers, William, James and Frazer Powers and three sisters, her twin May Marshall, Florence Baggs and Marie Bennett.
She was born in Adams Cove, Newfoundland, the daughter of Bernard and Sarah (Penney) Powers. She graduated from Chelsea High School in Massachusetts and has lived in Worcester since 1941. Dottie worked at General Electric in Ashland for many years retiring in 1962. She loved to write poetry and she played the accordion for the Auburn Swingers and local nursing homes.
The family would like to thank the wonderful staff at Emeritus at Eddy Pond, both at the Lodge and the Woods where she has lived for the past two years. Many thanks to the Hermitage Nursing Home for the wonderful care she received for the last four days of her life and also, the best care administered by the VNA Care Network Hospice team.
The funeral service and burial will be private. Arrangements are under the care of LINDQUIST LUNDIN FUNERAL HOME, 36 Butler Street.
