WORCESTER– Dorothy "Dottie" (Carrigan) Courtney, 66, of Worcester, died the afternoon of June 5th at Care One of Millbury, surrounded by family and close friends, following complications from a fall. She was the daughter of William and Dorothy Carrigan of Worcester.
Dottie leaves her beloved husband of 47 years Edward; her sons Gerald of Worcester, and William and his wife Sara of Spencer, and their children Natalie and Nolan; sisters Kathy (Mike) Arcure of Worcester; Mary (Joel) Cullen of Millbury; Maureen (Jeff) Morse of Falmouth; Diane (Gordon) Davis of Worcester; brothers Warren (Mona) of Leicester; Daniel of Worcester; Paul of Falmouth; and Richard of Worcester, her brother-in-law Eugene Courtney and his wife Mary of Auburn, and sister-in-law Maureen of New Bedford; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Her Godmother, Angela Polli and her God-children, John Polli, Christopher Arcure, and Thomas Carrigan.
Dottie worked for 47 years as a nurse at the former Worcester Memorial Hospital, and at Hahnemann Family Health before retiring in 2017. She was a member of St. Stephens Church in Worcester. Dottie enjoyed celebrating family get-togethers, going shopping, and playing slot machines. She looked forward to her annual trip to Cape Cod with her sisters and having tea parties EVERY Sunday with them. She loved sharing adventures such as cruises and Foxwoods excursions with her best friend of 49 years, Karole Grandinetti, who was with Dottie throughout her illness and at her death. Dottie loved to attend her granddaughters' dance recitals and her grandsons' soccer games.
Family and friends are invited to honor, remember and celebrate Dottie's life on Friday, June 8th from 5:00pm until 8:00pm at the Callahan, Fay & Caswell Funeral Home, 61 Myrtle St., Worcester. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00am on Saturday, June 9th at St. Stephen's Church, 357 Grafton St., Worcester. Burial will follow at Worcester County Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Breast Cancer in honor of Dottie's mother Dorothy Carrigan and other family members.
