Dorothy M. Davis, 99, of Worcester died February 17 after a brief illness.
Dorothy was born in Lunenburg the daughter of Howard W. and Elizabeth (Ball) Davis. She grew up in North Worcester and graduated from Worcester Public Schools and Worcester State Teachers College. She received her Masters of Education from Boston University. Dorothy taught in Holden and Worcester elementary schools. She was the assistant principal of Tatnuck Elementary School and the principal of St. Nicholas elementary school. She finished her career as an assistant superintendent of the Worcester public schools. She was instrumental in setting up Head Start and other Title I programs in the city.
She enjoyed her retirement between a summer home in Biddeford Pool, ME, winters in Longboat Key, Florida and her family home in Worcester. She is survived by five nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her four siblings, Helen E. Davis, Henry W. Davis, Alice Seale and Russell W. Davis.
A visiting period for Dorothy will be held on Saturday, February 28th from 10:00 until 11:00 am followed by a funeral service at 11:00 am at United Congregational Church, 6 Institute Rd. Burial will follow in Hope Cemetery. Arrangements are in the care of CALLAHAN, FAY & CASWELL FUNERAL HOME, 61 Myrtle St.
