WORCESTER-Dr. Lynda Carol (Fleming) Abusamra, 83, of Worcester, MA born December 18th, 1939 to Alfred Fleming and Evelyn (Goranson) Fleming, died on June 1st, 2023 at UMass Memorial Medical Center.   She had recently been a resident of Knollwood Nursing Center and Briarwood Retirement Community.  

Lynda was preceded in death by her husband Edwin A. Abusamra, who died in 1991.   She leaves four sons, Gary Charles Abusamra, Bradford Joal Abusamra, Allen Salim Abusamra, and Andrew Joseph Abusamra and a daughter-in-law, Dr. Melanie A Hartman (Gary Abusamra); a sister, Sandra K. Grondahl (Frank Grondahl); brother, Kenneth W. Fleming (Betty Fleming), and five grandchildren; Francesca Grace Abusamra, Sophia Marie Abusamra, Weston Joseph Abusamra, Olivia Rose Abusamra, and Lucas Edwin Abusamra as well as many nieces and nephews. 

In addition to raising her four sons, Lynda had a career that began as a Registered Nurse following nursing school at Massachusetts General School of Nursing.  She went on to complete a BA in Psychology from Indiana University at South Bend, and a PhD in Psychology from Notre Dame University.   She worked as a practicing nurse, researcher, and university professor, publishing numerous academic papers.  She was an instructor in the nursing programs of both Assumption College and East Tennessee State University.  She returned to New England in 2002 to work in various roles as a Nurse Practitioner and Clinician for the remainder of her career.  Music was a great pleasure in her life, and she and her husband “Ted” were long time members and supporters of the Worcester Chorus.   The family asks that donations be made to the Worcester Chorus in lieu of flowers. 

Calling hours will begin at 10:00 AM on Thursday June 29th at All Saints Episcopal Church, 10 Irving Street, Worcester.    The funeral service will begin at 11 AM at All Saints Episcopal Church followed by interment at Hope Cemetery, 119 Webster Street, Worcester.
