BOYLSTON: Dr. Willard G. Rice, Jr., 79 of Boylston died Thursday, January 19, 2023, in UMass Memorial Hospital after a brief illness.
He leaves two sons, Kyle Rice and his wife Melissa of Norwell and Brett Rice and his wife Sarah of Somerville; a daughter Melissa "Missy" Campbell and her husband Donald of Silver Spring, Maryland; a brother James Rice and his wife Brenda of Winchester; two sisters, Barbara Langstroth and her husband Hank of Sharon and Joan Nierenberg and her husband David of Grantham, New Hampshire; six grandchildren, Ethan, Avery, Oliver, Emma, Owen, & William; and several nieces and nephews.
Dr. Rice was born in Worcester, son of Dr. Willard G. Rice, Sr., and Virginia (Trapp) Rice. He graduated from North High School, Amherst College, and Tufts University Medical School. He served his country in the United States Air Force. Bill was the third generation ophthalmologist of Rice Ophthalmology Associates, which served the Worcester community for the past 100 years. During his free time Bill loved to play tennis, garden, walk in the woods, and enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.
The family plans to have a private memorial service and burial. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be sent to a favorite charity of ones choice. Callahan, Fay & Caswell Life Celebration Home, 61 Myrtle Street, is directing funeral arrangements.
