WORCESTER-Edna S. (Peterson) Lundin, 89, passed away peacefully and gently on Friday, July 9. Her husband of 35 years, Carl I. Lundin died on May 2, 1978. She leaves a daughter, Carlyn L. Sweithelm of Worcester; a son, Craig D. Lundin and his wife Patricia of Wilmington, NC. She also leaves four grandchildren, Carl Bowen and his wife Karen, Jeff Bowen, Keith Lundin and his wife Suzanne and Rebecca Hojnacki and her husband Todd; five great grandchildren, Christopher, Brandon, Sophie, Meagan and Cole; several nephews and nieces. She was predeceased by nine siblings, Gertrude Mard, Anna Westlund, Esther Christensen, Bertha Kenney, Clara Carlson, Agnes Donahue, Ethel Ammon, Clifford Peterson and Kenneth Peterson.
She was born in Worcester, daughter of Carl and Hilda (Anderson) Peterson and graduated from Commerce High School. Mrs. Lundin began working at Worcester City Hall as a clerk in the city messenger's office in 1963. In 1976, she was appointed as City Messenger and was the city government's first and only woman administrator, head of a staff of 21. Mrs. Lundin retired from that position in 1986. She was a lifelong member of Emanuel Lutheran Church and sang in the choir. She was also a member of the Daughter's of Emanuel. Family and friends were very important to Edna and she especially adored her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
The funeral service will be held at 10 AM on Wednesday, July 14 in Emanuel Lutheran Church, 200 Greenwood Street. Burial will follow in All Faith's Cemetery. Visiting hours are Tuesday, July 13 from 6-8 PM in LINDQUIST LUNDIN FUNERAL HOME, 36 Butler Street. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to Emanuel Lutheran Church, 200 Greenwood Street, Worcester, MA 01607.
