Edward O. Asselin

PAXTON-Edward O. Asselin, age 88 of 74 Maple Street Paxton, died peacefully after a long illness on December 10th, 2009, surrounded by his loving family. He leaves his wife, Grayce (Loughnane) Asselin of 62 years, a daughter Nancy Genese and her husband Gene Genese of Paxton, a son Robert J. and his wife Signe of Millbury, a sister Rita I. Scarry of Worcester and many nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, Mr. Asselin was predeceased by four sisters, Mary Pierce, Ida Brusso, Eva Pinto and Emma Letourneau; he was also predeceased by three brothers, Joseph, William and Francis Asselin.
Edward was born in Worcester the youngest of nine children the son of Joseph and Ida (Breton) Asselin. Mr. Asselin lived most of his life in Paxton. He was a graduate of Worcester Boys Trade High Schools electrical department and worked as an electrical technician for the Morgan Construction Company for forty four years retiring in 1985. He was a member of the Paxton American Legion Post 0306 and the North Brookfield American Legion Post 3439. He was a member of St. Columba Parish in Paxton serving as a collector for many years at the five o'clock Saturday afternoon mass. Mr. Asselin enjoyed listening to jazz music and feeding birds and other wildlife at various parks in the Worcester and Paxton area.
Edward was a World War II veteran who served with the 197th infantry division and was with them on the D-Day invasion at Normandy. His service in the U.S. Army earned him several medals and commendations
Mr. Asselin's funeral mass will be held today, Saturday, December 12th at 10:00 AM in St. Columba Catholic Church in Paxton, with a private burial to follow at Worcester County Memorial Park in Paxton, Ma. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Mass. Veteran's Shelter, 69 Grove Street, Worcester, MA 01605 or the Worcester Animal Rescue League, 139 Holden Street, Worcester, MA 01606.
