Edward T. Deedy

Edward T. Deedy, former Worcester City Councilor and Vice Mayor, died December 12, 2009 at Rosewood Manor in Harwich, MA. Born in Hartford, CT and raised in Worcester, Edward Deedy was a 1943 graduate of St. John's High School and a 1949 graduate of the College of the Holy Cross. He was a veteran of World War II, serving as a U.S. Navy Pharmacist Mate 2nd Class with the Fifth Marine Division in the Pacific Theater. After working two years in retailing and three in wholesale sales, he entered broadcasting for twenty years managing stations WNEB & WORC in Worcester and WOCD in Waterbury, CT. He was married to the late Rosemary (Mulhern) Deedy for 58 years prior to her death in 2007. Mr. Deedy is survived by three sons, Edward Jr. of Princeton, Kevin J. of Foxboro and Brian G. of Nashua, NH; two daughters, Rosemary L. Goodman of Foxboro and Diane P. Deedy of Breckenridge, CO; two brothers, Justin F. of Atlanta, GA and Thomas R. of Woodstock, VT; nine grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

Mr. Deedy was active in many civic and community organizations. He served as a trustee of United Way of Central Massachusetts; on the public information committee of the American Cancer Society, Worcester Division; president of the Multiple Sclerosis Society of Worcester County; incorporator of St. Vincent Hospital in Worcester; president of the Worcester Executives Association; on the board of directors of Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Worcester and on the Diocesan Board of Communications; a director of the Bancroft Automobile Club and the American Automobile Association of Worcester County, and many other religious, business and civic organizations in Worcester and Cape Cod.

The funeral will be held on Tuesday, December 15 from Doane Beale & Ames Funeral Home, 260 Main Street., West Harwich with calling hours from 9-10:30 AM in the funeral home followed immediately by an 11 AM Mass in the Holy Trinity Church, Route 28, West Harwich. Interment will be in the Holy Trinity Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Scholarship Fund, St. John's High School, 378 Main St., Shrewsbury, MA 01545.
