Edward J. "Rusty" Provencal

WORCESTER-Edward J. Provencal, "Rusty", 68, a retired Worcester Police Lieutenant, died Sunday, July 1, 2018 at W. Roxbury VA Hospital while surrounded by his loving family.

Rusty was born in Worcester, son of Andrew and Agnes (Fitzpatrick) Provencal and graduated from Burncoat High School. He then joined the Army and served proudly during the Vietnam War. Rusty was a Worcester Police Officer with over 30 years of service, retiring as Lieutenant in 2009. After retirement, he started a small appliance repair company called Rusty's Greyhound. Rusty was an avid traveler and foodie, and enjoyed following recommendations from Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives on these trips. He also enjoyed photography and took many pictures during his travels.

Rusty was a loving and devoted husband of Suzanne (Gabbett) and would have celebrated their 30th wedding anniversary in September. He was a loving dad to his two beautiful daughters, Alexi and her fiancé, Chris and Carol Anne and her wife, Sheya. Rusty also leaves his two brothers, Allen "Butch" and his wife, Sandy and James and his wife, Stella; a sister, Colleen and her husband, Maynard; his brother-in-law, Kevin and his wife, Cathy; his mother-in-law, Catherine and many nephews and nieces. Rusty was predeceased by his best friend, Andy.

It brings comfort to Suzanne and the girls to know that Rusty was greeted by their three greyhounds; Duchess, Ginger and Zoey that passed before him.

His funeral will be held on Friday, July 6 from Callahan Fay & Caswell Funeral Home, 61 Myrtle Street with a Mass at 10:00 am at St. George Church, 38 Brattle Street. Army Funeral Honors will be presented at church immediately following mass. Burial will be held at a later date. Visiting hours are Thursday, July 5th from 4-7 pm at the funeral home.
