NEW SALEM- Edward S. Laukaitis, 71, formerly of Millbury St., Worcester, died unexpectedly at home on Thursday, April 10. He leaves his wife Dorothy A. (Merrill) Laukaitis. Edward and Dorothy celebrated 50 years of marriage in May 2007. He also leaves four sisters, Genevieve Berry and her husband Robert of Worcester, Nancy Brosnan of Worcester, Beverly Cox and her husband Vincent of Springfield and Eleanor Mazzone and her husband Anthony of Spencer; seventeen nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his daughter Patricia A. Williams, two brothers, Alphonse G. and Daniel P. Laukaitis and a sister, Patricia C. Geraway.
He was born in Worcester January 7, 1937 the son of Peter G. and Olga E (Davis) Laukaitis. He graduated from Worcester Boys Trade School in 1955. Ed was a Union sheet metal worker for Local 63 for many years retiring in 1992. He was a member of the NRA and the G.O.A.L. and was a renowned taxidermist and avid hunter and fisherman. Ed was a great outdoorsman who loved nature, animals and wildlife, especially his dogs Safire, Trixie, Buster, Georgio and Paco. His great pride was his vegetables, beautiful gardens and fruit trees. He loved working his land. No one could grow tomatoes like Ed.

A memorial Mass will be held on Saturday, May 3 at 10:00 AM in Holy Name of Jesus House of Studies Chapel which is located in the rectory at 51 Illinois St. Burial of cremated remains will follow in Notre Dame Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Ed's memory to Second Chance Animal Shelter, Young Rd., East Brookfield, MA 01515 or to the Humane Society of the United States, Dept.
