WORCESTER
Edward J. Watterson, 84, of 49 Pleasant Valley Dr., died Monday, August 30 in UMass Memorial Healthcare-Memorial Campus.
His wife of 54 years, Ruth E. "Dolly" (Grimley) Watterson died in 1996. He leaves 2 sons, John T. husband of Carol A. Watterson of Leicester and Thomas F. husband of Cathy A. Watterson of Worcester; a sister, Helen McGuinness of Worcester; 8 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Two brothers, Andrew Blett and Francis Blett and a sister, Bertha Reed, predeceased him.
He was born in Worcester son of John T. and Ellen (Carney) Watterson and lived here all his life. Mr. Watterson was a WW II Army Air Force veteran serving with the 436th Bombardment Squadron and the 7th Bombardment Group and served in the India & Burma Theatre. He was a shipping supervisor with Thom McCan in Worcester & Auburn for 33 yrs retiring in 1981.
He was a former member of the Main South American Legion Post %23 341 and was a life long Red Sox and New York Football Giants fan.
The funeral will be Friday, September 3rd from FAY BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, 9 Hammond St. with a mass at 11:00 a.m. in St. Joan of Arc Church, 570 Lincoln St. Burial will be in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton. Calling hours will be Thursday, September 2nd from 5 to 8 p.m. in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the UMass Memorial Foundation, P.O. Box 2795, Worcester, MA 01613 or to St. Joan of Arc Church, 570 Lincoln St., Worcester, MA 01605.
