AUBURN-Effie V. (Campbell) Sodagar, 91, went to be with the Lord on Monday, August 23, 2021, at Harrington Memorial Hospital in Southbridge.
She was born in Worcester, daughter of John A. and Laura M. (Bemis) Campbell, graduated from Commerce High School and attended the Zion Bible Institute. As a teenager Effie attended Mt. Elam Full Gospel Church on Main Street before it's affiliation with Assemblies of God and was a long-time member of the First Assembly of God which is now Living Word Church of Worcester.
For 43 years, Effie worked in the office at Olson Manufacturing, now known as Inner-Tite Corporation in Holden. Through the years Effie also held many part-time jobs. Even after retirement from Inner-Tite she worked in the bakery at Price Chopper for ten years.
Through the years Effie enjoyed world travel for herself and for her church. She visited many states including Hawaii. She traveled to many countries including Israel, England, Egypt and Spain many times accompanied by her sister, Hazel. She embarked on two mission trips to Russia. Effie was always one for trying different foods and restaurants. Her bouts of Gout would attest to that. As far back as can be remembered Effie had a weekly ritual of having her hair washed and set often accompanied by her sister Helen.
Although not being called to "international" missionary work her calling for "Home Missions" was an important part of her life. Effie was ready to help those in need and never asked for anything in return. Having no children she became mother or mentor to nieces, nephews grand-nieces and grand nephews and young people of her church. These actions as well as her outward personality and unique name made people remember her.
In her church she was a Sunday School teacher, Missionette Leader, member of the 59'rs and attended Senior Chapel Connect. She also volunteered at the church Daycare center. She was involved in many ladies' groups in various churches enjoying the social aspect of Christian fellowship. She recently enjoyed being able once again attend "Senior Chapel Connect" at her church.
Effie is survived by nephews, nieces, great nephews, great nieces, great-great nephews and great-great nieces. She was predeceased by seven siblings: Alice Adams, Josephine Anderson, Mary Swett, Hazel Campbell, Nellie Tsianco, Laura Bolton and Frank Campbell. Since her passing she has been joined by her sister Helen Comrie. She also leaves her former husband Valy. A special Thank You and blessing to Tonya, Effie's caregiver for the past year.
The celebration of Effie's life will be held at the "Living Word Church", 30 Tyler Prentice Road, Worcester on Saturday September 25, 2021 at 10:00am. Burial will follow at Rural Cemetery.
