Eleanora Margaret (Voellings) Perry, age 91, of Burncoat Street, Leicester, died in the loving arms of family at Southbridge Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center on September 14 after a lengthy, twelve-year battle with Alzheimer's disease.
Eleanora was born in Clinton, MA, daughter of the late John and Hilda (Nelson) Voellings. She attended Commerce High School in Worcester, MA, leaving in her junior year to care for an ailing mother and younger siblings. Eleanora was employed by Crompton and Knowles during World War II. Later she worked at Telechron, Zayres Department Store and was a postal clerk at the Leicester Post Office.
Eleanora married John Walter Perry on September 20, 1947. They were together for 64 years, prior to his death in 2011. Their bond of commitment and devotion to one another has left a lasting legacy of love with our family.
She leaves two daughters, Margaret and her husband, Dennis DaRos of South Portland, Maine and Theresa, and her husband, Daniel North of Leicester; four grandchildren, John DaRos and his husband, Greg Berkel of Napa, California, Jeremy DaRos and his partner, Danielle Waugh of Portland, Maine, Melissa Perry of Leicester and Michael and his wife, Kimberly Perry of Spencer; and four great-grandchildren, Rhyen, Damien, Jaedyn and Jamisen. She also leaves three brothers, William Voellings of Worcester, Ralph Voellings of Leicester and Paul Voellings of Auburn. Brothers John Voellings, Ernest Voellings, Herman Voellings and Conrad Voellings, and a sister, Dorothy Morang, predeceased her.
Eleanora was a generous and kind woman, a wonderful cook, who hosted many gatherings and holidays in her Leicester home. She loved the beach, completing crossword puzzles, watching golf tournaments on television and making frequent trips to Maine. Other interests included travel to Ireland, Germany and San Francisco, reading, knitting, and most especially spending time with family, which was her focus and priority in life. She was deeply loved by her grandchildren and great-grandchildren who she adored and cherished any opportunity she had to be with them.
The Perry family would like to extend a special thanks to the dedicated staff at Southbridge Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center who cared lovingly for Eleanora for almost seven years.
Family and friends will honor and remember Eleanora's life by gathering for calling hours from 3:00-5:00pm on Sunday, September 20 at CALLAHAN-FAY & CASWELL FUNERAL HOME, 61 Myrtle St., Worcester. The funeral service will be celebrated at 10:00am on Monday at the funeral home, followed by burial at Pine Grove Cemetery in Leicester. Immediately following there will be a reception at the Leicester Country Club.
