SHREWSBURY
Elizabeth "Betty" D. (McPhail) Barclay, 98, of Shrewsbury, formerly of Hancock, NY and Vancouver, BC, Canada died Friday, Dec. 1, at home.
Her husband James Barclay, Sr. died in 1978. She leaves a son, Donald Barclay of Shrewsbury; two daughter, Allison McCann of Hancock, NY and Elizabeth and her husband Gregory Rheaume of Shrewsbury; a grandson, Daniel and his wife Denise McCann; and their children, Daniel, Michael and Patrick McCann all of Mars, PA; a granddaughter, Georgeanna Rheaume of Shrewsbury; three step-grandchildren, Toby and Renee Rheaume of Worcester and William Rheaume of Shrewsbury.A life long family friend, Judith Terwilliger of Oneonta, NY. A son James "Sonny" Barclay died June 7. She was born in Larklall Lanarkshire, Scotland, daughter of William and Allison (Davidson)McPhail and was the youngest child of seven.
Betty worked for Clark University until her retirement in 1992 at the age of 84. Her love of Scotland and her heritage were very important and passing on Scottish traditions. She was an active member of the Thistle Lodge %232 Daughters of Scotia for 69 years, a member of the Past Chief Daughters and Chief Daughters Assoc., a 58 year member of the Stella Chapter %233 Order of the Eastern Stars and past member of the Hancock Fire Dept. Auxiliary. Betty was a unique individual and had a great impact on many people in her 98 years on earth. She was a loving and dedicated mother, grandmother and friend and was devoted to her family.
The Memorial service will be held on Friday, Dec. 8 at 11:00 AM in First Congregational Church of West Boylston, 26 Central St., W. Boylston.
