Elizabeth M. Hogan

d. May 18, 2008

PALM DESERT,CA- Elizabeth Margaret "Betty" Chisholm Hogan passed away quietly in the evening on May 18, 2008 in Palm Desert, California.

Betty was born in Worcester, Massachusetts on October 22, 1906 to Frances (Hebert) and Syril Chisholm. She was one of seven children. She was married to Edward Joseph Hogan in 1926 and had two sons: Edward Joseph Hogan, Jr. and Richard Freeman Hogan. She graduated from North High School and City Hospital Nursing as an LPN.

Betty was an avid sports fan. She loved watching golf, football and of course, the Red Sox. She loved to read, and frequently would read a book a day. She traveled easily between all of her family's different homes from Worcester to Maui with Palm Desert, San Francisco, and Newport Beach in between. Special consideration had to be taken when she applied for a frequent flier account at age 100 as the computer did not recognize someone born in 1906!

Betty lived in Worcester all her life until 2000 when her two sisters with whom she lived passed away. She then moved to Palm Desert to live with her son and granddaughter. Betty worked full time at Westside House nursing home well into her 80's.

Betty is predeceased by her husband, Edward Joseph Hogan, Sr., a Worcester policeman, her son, Edward Joseph Hogan, Jr., a California physician, and her son Richard Freeman Hogan, also a California resident and daughter-in-law Rose; 4 sisters and 1 brother. She is survived by her two sisters, Loretta Burns and Alice Allard, both of Auburn; daughter-in-law Frances Hogan; Grandson, Edward Joseph Hogan III and his wife Maryanne, Granddaughter, Cathy Hogan Burgner and her husband Daniel, and Granddaughter Carol Hogan; great-grandchildren Michelle, Brooke, Matthew and Edward Burgner and Gregory and Megan Hogan.

Betty was loved by all who had the pleasure of knowing her and she will be missed by all.

The funeral will be held on Friday, May 23 from CALLAHAN & FAY BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, 61 Myrtle St., Worcester, MA with a Mass at 11:00 AM in St. Peters Church, 931 Main St., Worcester. Burial will follow in St. John's Cemetery. A visiting hour will be held from 9:30 to 10:30 AM on the morning of the funeral at the funeral home.
