Elizabeth D. Kelleher

August 17, 1922 — September 14, 2010

WORCESTER - Elizabeth D. (Flaherty) Kelleher, 88, formerly of 100 Coolidge Road, passed away peacefully, on Tuesday, September 14, 2010, surrounded by her loving family. She was predeceased by her husband of 54 years, Paul T. Kelleher of Worcester who died in 2007. She is survived by six children, Mary Anne Kelleher of Boston, Elizabeth O'Connor and her husband Charles of Worcester, Grace Maraghy and her husband Patrick of Andover, P. Thomas Kelleher, Jr. and his wife Amy of Holden, Peter F. Kelleher and his wife Katherine of Walpole, and Julie O'Brien and her husband Sean of Melrose; 19 grandchildren; two brothers, Robert P. Flaherty of East Orleans, and David F. Flaherty of Yarmouthport; and several nieces and nephews. Her brothers, Peter T. Flaherty, Jr. and John A. Flaherty predeceased her.

Betty was born in Worcester, the daughter of Peter and Mabel (Rourke) Flaherty. She was a graduate of Saint Joseph's High School, Newport, Rhode Island. During WWII, she served in the United States Navy as a WAVE, in Washington, DC. Upon her discharge, she joined the New England Telephone Company, in Worcester. She was a long-time member of Blessed Sacrament Church, Worcester, and The Parish of Christ the King Church, Mashpee. She was a summer resident of Popponesset Beach, Cape Cod, for more than fifty years. She enjoyed reading, golfing, and playing bridge, though her greatest joy was being with her family.

Betty will be sadly missed and loved for eternity by family and friends.

Calling hours will be held Sunday, September 19, 2010, from 3:00 to 6:00 pm at Callahan and Fay Brothers Funeral Home, 61 Myrtle Street, Worcester. A funeral mass will be held, on Monday, September 20, 2010, at 10:00 am, at Blessed Sacrament Church, 551 Pleasant Street, Worcester. Burial at Saint John's Cemetery will be private.
