ELSINGBORG, SWEDEN / MILLVILLE, MA - Eric Paul Burgoyne, 33, died Tuesday, December 15 in Helsingborg after a long illness. He leaves his wife, Victoria (Olsson) Burgoyne of Helsingborg and their infant son, Henry Mannix Burgoyne; his mother Carol A. (Fouhy) Burgoyne of Duxbury; his father and stepmother, Richard N. and Marguerite Burgoyne of Holden, Maine; and a brother, Jared R. Burgoyne of Westborough. He also leaves his maternal grandmother, Joan P. Fouhy of Shrewsbury and his paternal grandmother, Ruth L. Burgoyne of Worcester, as well as many aunts, uncles and cousins.

Eric was born in Worcester and grew up in Millville. He graduated from Mount Saint Charles Academy where he played saxophone in the orchestra and marching band and was part of a student exchange program with Yamanashi Isowa High School in Japan. He graduated cum laude from Westfield State College with a bachelor of arts degree in communications. During his junior year, he studied at Canterbury Christ Church University in the United Kingdom. Following graduation, he served as an intern with CNN International in London and as an Americorps volunteer with the American Red Cross in Philadelphia. He also worked at WHDH, the Boston affiliate of NBC, and at the John F. Kennedy Library in Boston. He then spent five years as a risk analyst with Fidelity Investments in Boston.

After a year of study at Folkuniversitetet in Goteborg, Sweden, he accepted a position with IKEA of Sweden, communicating the company's environmental policies and providing support for its partnerships with agencies such as UNICEF and Save the Children.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 30 at 11:00 a.m. in Quinsigamond United Methodist Church, 9 Stebbins St., Worcester. Burial at Hillside Cemetery in Auburn will be private. Donations may be made in Eric's memory to the American Cancer Society, 30 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701 or the Memorial Fund at Quinsigamond United Methodist Church, 9 Stebbins St., Worcester, MA 01607.
