Eugene H. Poston, Jr., 69, passed away peacefully at his home on March 9, 2025, after a long battle with cancer.
He will be lovingly remembered by his devoted wife of 52 years, Sharilyn B. (Confer) Poston. Eugene is survived by his son, Eugene M. Poston of Worcester, and his two daughters, Latona Boyd and her husband Kiyen of Springfield, and Danette Dowson of Manchester, CT, along with 13 grandchildren. He is also mourned by his three sisters: Barbara Doughty of Worcester, Janice Poston of Worcester, and Cynthia Folson and her husband Jacob of CT, along with many nieces and nephews.
Eugene was predeceased by his youngest son Samuel J. Poston as well as his father, Eugene H. Poston Sr; his mother, Sammie "Sandy" B. Poston; and three sisters, Mildred Wheeler, Lillie Poston, and Martha Franklin. Eugene was born in Hartsville, South Carolina, where he lived until the age of 8, when he relocated with his family to Worcester, MA. He attended local area schools and subsequently embarked on a career in the medical field as a Mental Health Worker to which he devoted many years of service before his eventual retirement. In his youth, he proved to be a standout athlete in various sports endeavors, from wrestling, boxing, martial arts, basketball, football, and track and field. Eugene was also an exceptional artist and known by his family and friends for his beautiful singing voice. He loved small gatherings with his family where he could enjoy a good meal, listen to his favorite music and on occasion sing a longs with his family. Above all else, he was a devoted husband and father who most enjoyed spending time with his wife, children, and grandchildren, as well as being a loyal and true friend, brother, and uncle to all who knew him.
Family and friends are invited to gather and celebrate Eugene's life on Thursday, April 17th, from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM at Callahan, Fay & Caswell Life Celebration Home, located at 61 Myrtle Street, Worcester. A memorial talk will begin at 3:00 PM. The burial will take place at a later date in Hope Cemetery, Worcester. Instead of flowers, memorial donations may be made to The American Cancer Society.
