WORCESTER-Evelia Santos Pagan, 82, died Friday, Feb. 26 at UMass Medical Center.

Her husband, Pablo Pagan died in 2005 and her first husband, Carmelo Santos died in 1952. She leaves two sons, Carmelo Santos of Worcester and Richard Santos of Attleboro; her sister, Aida Gautier of Worcester; 12 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Her daughter, Jeannette Santos and 5 brothers predeceased her.

She was born in Carolina, Puerto Rico the daughter of Secundino and Luisa (Barreto) Gautier. She received her Bachelor's Degree and then her Master's Degree in 1985 from New Hampshire College when she was in her 50's. She worked as a social worker at YOU, Inc. She was a member of Pleasant St. Church of Seventh Day Adventist. She was a positive inspiration to her community and was an activist for change. Her unselfish commitment to encourage others to reach for something greater was evident in the way she lived her life. Her determination to be self reliant without burdening others was a show of her faith that God is able. Even in the face of adversity she was able to keep her sense of humor giving everyone hope. She saw the light in everyone she met so they could see the light in God. Even in her last days, she went out "strong like a bull, soft as a tomato."

Visiting hours will be Tuesday, March 2 from 5:00 to 8:00 PM at CALLAHAN & FAY BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, 61 Myrtle St. Her funeral service will be held on Wednesday, March 3 at 10:00 AM at Pleasant St Church of Seventh Day Adventist, 370 Pleasant St. Burial will follow in Hope Cemetery.
